Course description
This course will introduce students consider the main schools of theoretical thought associated with counselling, and the way in which these theories inform practice through providing explanations for human problems and methods for resolving those problems. Students will be introduced to models of integrative theory and common mechanisms, and will be taught how to draw on multiple theories in order to understand a client's story and plan for work with that client. The theories will also be related to hypothesis generation and testing in the process of counselling and related to the development of common evidence-based interventions matched to the needs of individuals in their context and culture.
