Course description
Students require departmental consent to enrol in COUN7007. Please contact the School of Social Work and Human Services for further information. COUN7007 is undertaken during the final year of study in the Master of Counselling program. Students will gain supervised practice experience in an agency setting - government and non-government. In the practicum students will have the opportunity to apply counselling theory and knowledge and skills-based training in live counselling sessions. Students must demonstrate competency in interviewing clients around a range of presenting issues and show critical reflection on their knowledge, skills, and attitudes to clients and self. Students will consider critical evaluation of their practice using action research and reflective practice methods. Students are required to contact the School's Field Education Unit (fielded@uq.edu.au) by no later than October of the previous year for placement to be organised for semester 1; and by April of the same year for semester 2 enrolment.
