One translation project that includes a short Chinese>English translation (500 Chinese characters), a work-plan, and a 1500-word report (which includes research on the author, the text and its criticism, stylistic features, and translation challenges) (50%); 3 micro-translations for the translation workshops (30%); and general writing and literary translation activities as well as general participation (20%).

Course description
This course introduces students to the task of literary translation. It includes coverage of relevant theories in translation studies that deal with literature, case studies of modern and contemporary Chinese fiction and poetry, and practical writing and translation tasks. This course may be cancelled if fewer than 20 students enrol
