Course description
Due to COVID considerations unfortunately we will not be running BIOL3016 in 2021. Instead please consider taking our new course BIOL3030 Urban Ecology. Urban areas are rapidly expanding across the globe, often at the expense of natural ecosystems. However, cities themselves are thriving ecosystems in which humans interact with (and rely on!) an amazing array of animals, plants, fungi and other organisms. In this course, students will learn and apply core principles of ecology to their own neighbourhoods to gain deep understanding of how their urban environment functions, and how we can use ecology to design healthier and happier places to live. Field course: 6 days camping at Idalia National Park in Western Queensland, studying ecology of arid zone. This course is held between semesters 1 & 2 but students must enrol in semester 1. Additional costs for field trip. Quota 50 (in total). All enquiries for permission to enrol to be addressed to biology.enquiries@uq.edu.au. Preference given to 3rd year students who have completed BIOL2010 and BIOL2015. 2nd year students will be considered if there are places available.
