Course description
Beginning in the 1980s and continuing up to the present, this course is an introductory survey of key figures and trends in contemporary Australian art. Topics covered include sound art; institutional critique; installation art and site-specific projects; cross-cultural dialogue; expanded cinema and the art of the moving image; art and politics, and the development of Australian arts writing and publishing. Students will also engage critically with works of contemporary art on site at various galleries and museums across Brisbane, including QAGOMA and the University of Queensland Art Museum. The course is delivered through a variety of approaches and features lectures, guest talks by artists and curators, fieldwork site visits and workshops.
