Course description
This course explores the art and architecture of Venice. The primary instruction takes place on site in Venice. Within the settings of the city's churches, palaces, squares and museums, students will study art and architecture of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. Particular attention is paid to works of art in their original locations, as well as political, religious and social contexts for art and architecture. Key artists include the Bellini family, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto and Palladio. There will be 2 preliminary meetings during semester 1, and 3 weeks of on site lectures in Venice, Italy, Monday-Friday (intensive) in June/July.
