Course description

This course is one of a suite of elective Architectural Research courses that provide an opportunity to develop research skills and specialist knowledge in the area of Architectural History and Theory. ARCH7083 focuses on topics relating to architectural theory and criticism that may include: analysis of the role of theory in shaping the discipline of architecture historically and in the present; the evaluation of specific theoretical positions and critical approaches; and the place of criticism in architectural culture. Research may be undertaken through literature review, creative and critical writing; curation, or other means of engagement with architectural culture. Students will be part of a cohort working closely with an academic or practitioner experienced in the field with research topics grounded in real world engagement with research partners from industry, government, cultural organisations and allied research groups. This course may not be available every semester. Please consult the School of Architecture for semester availability including Summer Semester and intensive coursework offerings. This course may be offered as a single topic or multiple topics depending on the availability of subject experts and academics.
