Course description

This course is one of a suite of elective Architectural Research courses that provide an opportunity to develop research skills and specialist knowledge in the area of Architectural History and Theory. ARCH7081 focuses on research topics specific to architectural history that may include the study of: historic buildings and architects; intellectual history and historiography; and the management and conservation of the built environment. Research may be undertaken through: the analysis, interpretation and presentation of primary and secondary literature and archival material; fieldwork to document historic places including through digital processes; oral history methods; literature review; the formulation of written arguments or reports; and the development of proposals for the management and conservation of historical places. Students will be part of a cohort working closely with an academic or practitioner experienced in the field with research topics grounded in real world engagement with research partners from industry, government, cultural organisations and allied research groups. This course may not be available every semester. Please consult the School of Architecture for semester availability including Summer Semester and intensive coursework offerings. This course may be offered as a single topic or multiple topics depending on the availability of subject experts and academics.
