Course description

In an increasingly globalised world, migration gives rise to new identities, enhances political, social and cultural life and is responsible for the growth of new communities. The scale and impact of migration force us to re-think fundamental categories of social life - from families and nations to transnational communities. In this course, migration will be discussed through conceptual categories of ethnicity, race, nationalism, transnationalism and economy. Case studies will also provide illustrations of contemporary questions about multiculturalism, diversity and belonging.
