Course description

A survey of the major achievements of Roman visual arts & architecture & the influences that helped to shape these achievements. The following topics will be treated in detail: the buildings & monuments of the city of Rome, including temples, baths, fora; sculpture & mosaics; paintings with particular reference to Pompeii & Herculaneum; Roman attitudes to the arts.
