Course description

NOT 2009 This course consists of a trip to Italy, visiting the major archeological sites of the ancient Roman world and many of the important museums and collections. There will also be associated lectures and information sessions. The tour will visit Italy in alternate years. Sites to be visited may include, but are not restricted to: Rome, Paestum, Tarquinia, Cerveteri, Pompeii and Herculaneum. At the completion of this course, students will have a greater understanding of the ancient world, but they will also experience art, monuments and culture from later periods, including the modern society of Italy. This experience will prove to be invaluable in any future studies within the Humanities which seek to foster an awareness of the European tradition to which the modern Australasian world is deeply indebted.
